How durable are the finished pieces?Updated 20 hours ago
We have developed our clay and varnish to give a strong and durable final piece. There are a few steps you can take to ensure your piece is as durable as possible:
- Make sure when joining two pieces together, you use slip and score methods on all joins. This is vital to make sure the clay is bonded correctly and creates a strong final piece
- Consistent thickness of clay throughout. All clay pieces are as strong as their weakest point, so it’s important to make sure your clay piece does not have any areas where the clay is significantly thinner than others.
- Make sure the clay dries at a constant temperature and do not expose it to high drying temperatures. Drying clay at high temperatures can lead to the clay cracking. Even small cracks will compromise the strength of the final piece.
- Smooth your clay piece with a sponge. Smoothing imperfections on the surface of your clay piece can lead to a harder-wearing final surface.
- Use Sculpd varnish to protect your piece. Once painted, use Sculpd varnish to protect against moisture and add surface hardness to your piece.
